The Whisperer in Darkness
One of Raylack’s many farmers.
Born in the village of Raylack, Matthew moved away to a boarding school, seeking to study economics and commerce beyond that of the simple and bucolic life of a farmer, much to the chagrin of his relatives. He inherited the family farmstead after the passing of his father, abandoning his studies and vowing to maintain the land.
He married a local woman named Aietta, the pair siring two children before Aietta was taken sick, eventually succumbing to the disease after several years.
Matthew continued to live and work on the farm with his son Thomas and daughter Isabella. He kept a diary in which he recorded the important goings-on in his life.
In his final weeks Matthew recorded several ominous developments, including the mutilation of his livestock, strange whisperings and dark dreams. When he tasked his son, Thomas, with sending word to the Raylack Farmers Guild, the boy never arrived. Distraught, Matthew made a trip to Branock’s Gorge to search for his lost son. He returned a broken man.
Toulson was found by the Risen Adventurers in the master bedroom of his home on a bed soaked in his blood, his wrists slashed. It seemed that even in his last moments, the farmer had been tormented by ghostly whispers.
